Sculptor born in 1953 in Cracow. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (studied in 1973-1978 supervised by professor Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz and professor Oskar Hansen). He has been very active as a designer in various disciplines; he used to closely cooperate with Jerzy Grotowski’s theatre, creating posters for his performances between 1976-1981. He has lived in Rome since 1986, but at the same time has been highly present on artistic scene in Poland. His early works made references to the communist propaganda (The Total Portrait of Karl Marx, 1978, owned by the Museum of Independence in Warsaw; Collective Portrait, 1980, in the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw) and social and political situation of Poland during martial law
(Victoria-Victoria, 1983, collection of the National Museum in Cracow). He is best known for his sculpture installation Moby Dick (1987, currently in the collection of ms2, Art Museum in Łódź) – an iconic sculpture of the last two decades of the 20th century in Poland. His works have been presented during a grand number of collective exhibitions. He is the author of memorial statues of Konstanty Puzyna, Krzysztof Kieślowski, Ryszard Cieślak, as well as of Incontro con Federico Fellini (Rimini, 1994) and Frederic Chopin La note bleue (Vienna, 2010) monuments. He was awarded multiple scholarships by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and a scholarship of the Italian government (1988/1989). He received the Katarzyna Kobro Award (2004) and The Gold Medal for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis (2011).
